WHEREAS, in accordance with the Title VIII Fair Housing Policy of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 and the Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 and,

WHEREAS, the month of April 2026 has been designated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity as Fair Housing Month.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Preble hereby declares and proclaims April as Fair Housing Month in the Town.

The Town Supervisor is the designated Fair Housing Officer of the Town of Preble. If any individual or family feels that they have been discriminated against in obtaining suitable housing or housing accommodations of their choice, they can call 607-749-3199 Wednesday and Thursday from 5PM to 9PM.

LEGAL NOTICE

The Town of Preble, Cortland County, New York, is requesting proposals from qualified consultants or firms to provide Program and Grant Administration Services for its 2025 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Housing Rehabilitation Program, funded by the New York State Office of Community Renewal (OCR).

The program is funded by a $600,000 NYS CDBG award and will rehabilitate owner-occupied housing for low- and moderate-income households.

MWBE firms and Section 3 Business Concerns are strongly encouraged to submit proposals. In accordance with Section 3 of the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968, priority will be given, to the greatest extent feasible, to low- and very-low-income persons and to businesses that employ such persons.

Proposals must be submitted electronically in PDF format no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, April 17, 2026. Late proposals will not be accepted.

Preble Town Clean-Up 2026

Preble residents may bring the following items to the site of the Highway Garage/ Salt Shed at 6684 Rt. 281 (Just north of the Mountain View Restaurant)

HOURS AND DAYS OF OPERATION
FRIDAY April 24th from 7:30 - ‘til 3:30 pm (Closed 12:00 – 12:30)
SATURDAY April 25th from 7:30 am ‘til 3:30 pm (Closed 12:00 – 12:30)
CLOSED SUNDAY

There will be no fee for these items:
- White goods, steel, iron, tin,
- Small bundles of yard waste, less than 7’ long and 4’ in diameter
- Other refuse at the discretion of the attendant.
Nails to be removed or bent over
- Nails, Screws and other sharp object are to be in an enclosed container

LOADS MUST BE SEPARATED
MIXED LOADS WILL BE PULLED TO THE SIDE TO ALLOW SEPARATED MATERIALS TO BE UNLOADED

Under NO circumstances shall the following items be brought:
- Hazardous materials or their containers
- Paint cans with ANY liquid left in them
- Household garbage, (i.e. Food wastes)
- Tires

            PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that a public hearing will be held by the Town of Preble Zoning Board of Appeals on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Preble Town Hall, located at 1968 Preble Road, Preble, New York, to review the application of Theodore Larison/Clifford Ostrander requesting a front yard and side yard variance pursuant to Sec. 515 of the Zoning Ordinance to build a garage at premises located at 6238 Little York Lake Road.

In 1906 a new school built in the center of town. This later centralized with the Homer School District and operated until 1954. Today it houses the post office and town offices. It continues to be painted red and is a gathering place and pictoral part of the town.
The Town of Preble maintains 25.4 centerline miles of roads. Sixteen miles of the 25.4 are plowed, making up 34 plowing segments. We also plow school bus pull-offs, turnarounds, the Fire Station and the Town Hall. The average route time is 2 hrs. 45 minutes.
In an emergency call: 911 The Preble Fire Department is also accessible via a 911 call.
Backyard trash burning is illegal and is a major uncontrolled source of dioxin in the United States: per pound of household trash burned, barrels emit hundreds of times more dioxin than a garbage incinerator.
